BMW i3: unusual noise when driving over uneven road

The owner of an electric BMW i3 complained about a strange noise coming from the B-pillar area when driving on a bumpy road. Autodata specialists present solution to this problem.

Our client owns a BMW i3, and he is complaining about an unusual noise coming from the B-pillar area when driving on uneven roads. We heard the noise during the test drive, but back at the workshop we could not determine the cause. Have you heard of this problem before?

Answer: We have meet with this fault several times – it is caused by the connecting rod of the lock cylinder on the driver’s door hitting the door lock mechanism. Install a foam pad (you can find it in the BMW parts department) between the driver’s door lock mechanism and the connecting rod of the lock cylinder (fig.1.1.). After the repair is completed, a test drive should be performed to see if the fault has been removed.
