One Air Conditioning Compressor, Two Systems
MAHLE offers air conditioning compressors that can be installed in both R134a and R1234yf systems. However, several issues need to be considered. The refrigerants R134a and R1234yf differ significantly in terms of chemical composition, among other things.
However, the working pressure and technical design, for example of piston compressors, are identical for both systems. Therefore, the same air conditioning compressor can be used for both these refrigerants.
Appropriate Oil
MAHLE air conditioning compressors compatible with two refrigerants are factory-filled with PAGYF oil. This oil can be used with both R134a and R1234yf refrigerants.
However, it should be noted that some UV contrasts in R134a-filled systems are not compatible with PAGYF oil. In such cases, the system must be flushed before installing a new air conditioning compressor. Alternatively, the oil in the new compressor can be replaced with PAG oil, which according to the manufacturer’s information is compatible with R134a and the UV contrast used.
Before Installation
One of the most important tasks before installing any air conditioning compressor is determining the correct amount of oil and adjusting it if necessary (see TM 03/2020). This also applies to compressors that have been factory-filled with a specific amount of PAGYF oil. If the air conditioning compressor is to be used in an R134a system containing UV contrast, it is essential to flush the system, as the contrast may not be compatible with PAGYF oil.
Important! MAHLE air conditioning compressors for R134a and R1234yf systems are filled with PAGYF oil, which is basically compatible with both refrigerants. If UV contrast has been added to R134a, it must be compatible with PAGYF oil. Before installation, it is essential to determine the required amount of oil in the air conditioning compressor and adjust it if necessary.
