These Companies Have Signed an Agreement. It Concerns Tire Recycling.

Three large companies have announced the signing of an agreement aimed at creating a closed loop for tire production. The corporations want to develop a scalable and sustainable supply chain model that will allow for the transformation of used tires into new ones.

The formed partnership aims to combine the strengths of the three interested companies: Bridgestone’s experience in tire production, Grupo BB&G’s innovative pyrolysis technology, and Versalis’ production capabilities in elastomers. The companies will work together on developing and implementing new technical solutions to create an efficient ecosystem for future recycling of used tires on a commercial scale.

How will the cooperation look? In short: end-of-life tires (ELT) will undergo a pyrolysis process developed by Grupo BB&G. This process enables the recovery of valuable tire pyrolysis oil (TPO) on a commercial scale. This oil will then go to Versalis, where it will be used to produce high-quality elastomers. Finally, Bridgestone will use these elastomers to produce a new batch of tires, thus closing the cycle.

The approach to tire recycling is slowly becoming part of global trends in sustainable development and circular economy. Thanks to the collaboration between Bridgestone, Grupo BB&G, and Versalis, used tires can gain a “second life,” which can actually contribute to reducing waste and protecting the natural environment.
