Continental Winter Tire Ranked First by ADAC, ÖAMTC and TCS
The Continental WinterContact TS 870 takes first place in all tested sizes in the winter tire tests published today by the major automobile clubs in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) awards it the rating “highly recommended” in both dimensions, while the German ADAC and the Austrian Automobile, Motorcycle and Touring Club (OAMTC) grade it 2.1 (215/60 R16) and 2.2 (185/65 R 15).
The TCS particularly praised the balance. The WinterContact TS 870 performed convincingly on dry and wet roads, but also showed its strengths on snow and ice – with good energy efficiency and low wear. The ADAC and ÖAMTC came to comparable results and emphasized the safety in winter conditions and the balance on all surfaces.
The annual tests by the three automobile clubs are regarded as the yardstick for the industry’s current winter tire range. This year, the clubs examined a total of 33 tire models in sizes 185/65 R 15, a popular dimension for small cars, and 215/60 R 16 for the (SUV) compact class. The WinterContact TS 870 has already come out on top this in the test by the trade magazine Auto Express (UK): “Continental stands for safety in summer and winter. The test victory at the major automobile clubs proves our premium claim and honors the efforts of our development team,” says Andreas Schlenke, tire developer at Continental.
Continental’s experts have redesigned the WinterContact TS 870 from the ground up. For this purpose, a new tread design, construction and compound were developed. As a result, the WinterContact TS 870 offers three percent shorter braking distances on ice and five percent better handling on snow compared to its predecessor. At the same time, mileage has been increased by ten percent and grip on snow has been improved.
