Never Again “Electric”. This Survey Has Verified the Opinion of Many Drivers.
Will electric cars dominate the market? It turns out that many drivers of such vehicles might have a completely different opinion on this matter. A survey was conducted, and its results may surprise you.
Survey of Electric Car Owners
McKinsey & Co conducted a very interesting survey among electric car drivers. The question was whether their next car would also be electric or with an internal combustion engine. It turns out that a large portion of American owners of plug-in cars have no intention of repeating the decision to purchase such a vehicle.
A large portion, meaning 46% of respondents, nearly half. On a global scale, the tendency was slightly different, with less than one-third of drivers giving a similar response. Nevertheless, this result may be somewhat shocking for the electromobility industry.
Reason? It Might Have Been Expected.
The problem for drivers is not the way of driving an electric car, the media flooding with information about various fires that take longer to extinguish than internal combustion engine cars, or even the ecological problems related to battery production. Consumers worldwide stated that the main reason is the infrastructure, which is still not highly developed. This leads to difficulties in long-distance travel and unnecessary stress.
That’s Not All. There Are Other Survey Results.
McKinsey & Co examined the area a bit more broadly. It turns out that as many as 21% of respondents worldwide never want to switch to an electric car. Only 33% of these 21% are concerned about the infrastructure: 2/3 give another reason.
Surprisingly, given the pessimistic attitude, the overall results show that a little more drivers compared to 2022 are considering purchasing an electrified car. 38% of respondents said that at their next car change, they would consider buying a Plug-In hybrid or an electric vehicle. Two years ago, it was 37%. The growth is slow but noticeable.
The Studies Show That Consumers Worldwide Have Very Different Opinions on This Matter.
This may be related to regional changes in regulations, the dynamics of implementing and developing this technology (and infrastructure), supply chains, or even earnings and prices.
The survey involved 30,000 consumers from 15 countries responsible for 80% of global sales of electrified cars. They answered about 200 questions. The survey is repeated every 2 years, so the next one is scheduled for 2026.
